society of wildlife artists exhibition & update

I was very pleased to learn that my two miniatures (above) have been accepted into the SWLA exhibition 'The Natural Eye'. They can be seen, along with a host of wonderful wildlife art from the UK and overseas at the Mall Galleries in London from September 22nd - October 2nd. This is considered a fantastic show to visit whether you are an artist, collector or simply love wildlife and is one of the foremost events in the UK wildlife art calendar:
'Through art, the Society actively seeks not only to generate an appreciation of and enthusiasm for the natural world, but also to advance the interest, education and concern of the public in the conservation of wildlife. In pursuit of these objectives the SWLA undertakes various activities to support and promote arts based objectives of other conservation and wildlife charities.'

Katherine Tyrrell was at last year's exhibition and you can see her review and photos at Making a Mark.

Below an update from the bigger easel - some little snippets of a new 20" x 28" commissioned piece which I will be able to show in its entirety next year.

penguin miniature painting

'Catching Rays' (King Penguins) © Tracy Hall 2010
2.25" x 1.75" watercolour on board

A new miniature of King Penguins with a ghost penny for size. It felt good to be back working on a small scale for a little break and I really enjoyed painting these beautiful birds soaking up the sun.

veg and the joys of watercolour board

snippets of work in progress

Nearing completion with this painting and am underway with the next large one. I can only show little bits for now. The beauty of working on full sheet watercolour boards for these (as I now do) is that they are already stretched and on a board so can have several on the go at once with ease, less clutter and much less swearing. For someone who hates stretching paper (as I do) and has a small studio this is wonderful. Should have gone over to them years ago. Hoping to squeeze in a mini this week if I get time. Or at least start one. Missing tiny!

p.s. the wasps are gone...
