|Waxwings - miniature watercolour painting in progress|

The waxwings are currently (and very slowly!) taking shape in this miniature painting, which harks back to a brilliant invasion by these wonderful birds before Christmas. Their visit to our garden was brief but full of frantic activity and luckily they weren't especially bothered by human watchers with cameras as they had far more pressing concerns. I have a looooong way to go with this one but you never know, I may finish it before their next visit...
I have been busy of late with illustration work and here are some little snippets of recent pieces:
The exhibition by the Miniature Society of Florida at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs ends this weekend and I was happy to learn I had received an award for 3rd place in Birds and Animals for my painting of a Socorro Dove. Fingers crossed for some sales as well! It was also a lovely surprise to hear that after their recent meeting I had been selected for signature membership of the Miniature Artists of America - and especially nice that President Kay Petryszak phoned to let me know personally. This is a wonderful organisation and I'll be honoured to be a part of it.

I have also been helping Roz Pierson set up a website to showcase the miniature art collection of Sue Lee. This is an incredible collection of over six hundred paintings, spanning over 25 years and featuring work by many wonderful miniature artists including fifteen Royal Miniature Society Gold Bowl winners. Sadly Sue is not in the best of health, but she is very keen to share her marvellous collection and love of miniature art with the wider public. You can see the website and explore the paintings here - The Sue Lee Collection. It is very much a work in progress as we add more paintings as often as possible until the entire collection will be available to view.
