Grey seals © Tracy Hall 2012
2.75" x 4.75" watercolour on board (with a 'ghost' penny shown for scale) |
Last autumn we visited one of the bays where the grey seals pup and this miniature painting is the result from photos and videos I took that day. It was a privilege to be able to watch them (from a decent distance) - until it got so cold I couldn't hold the camera steady! Not unlike this summertime then really...actually that isn't entirely true, we did have a great sunny day recently and the pictures below are from my wander along the beach that morning:
 |
| Lots of common blues! They were all along the shore, dining on vetch |
 |
| Beautiful eiders |
 |
| The fulmar chicks are growing well |
 |
| Common seals this time, basking on the shore |

Amazing painting Tracy.
I sailed on a traditional Thames Barge from Whitstable (Kent) recently and caught a glimpse of a seal. I wasn't close enough to get a photo sadly. We have 'common' seals locally (although that always sounds a little unkind I think)
Thanks Sue, I hope you get another chance to see seals soon. The Barge trip sounds great!
