woodland miniature painting

La Riviere d'Argent ©Tracy Hall 2012
2" x 3.5" watercolour on board
A change of pace - I don't normally paint landscapes but I was so taken by a recent visit to Huelgoat in Brittany that I couldn't resist. The river meanders for miles through the glorious ancient forest, disappearing near the village under an amazing jumble of massive, mossy boulders known as 'The Chaos of Rocks'. The scene I chose for the above painting was a little further into the forest, where the river re-emerges and winds peacefully through the trees. Its a magical place.

Apologies for the infrequent posts of late, but I am still here, just very busy! I shall be taking part in two upcoming shows - The David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year Exhibition opens soon at the Mall Galleries in London (May 21st) and the Hilliard Society 30th Anniversary International Miniature Art Exhibition opens the following Saturday (May 26th) in Wells. Both promise to be excellent shows and well worth a visit but if you are unable to attend in person, both are putting the exhibitions online as well.

I'm amazed (again) at how much detail you have in such a small piece. It's beautiful Tracy. Good luck with the two (very nice) upcoming shows ;)

This one reminds me of childhood holidays in the glens of Scotland. There is so much magical atmosphere in this little scene it draws you in like a nice warm blanket!

I agree with Kim. I was looking for one of your birds sitting on a rock somewhere! You never disappoint with whatever subject you paint. I think you've captured the magic of this place. The best to you in your upcoming shows, Tracy!
