Catching up with the little brushes

Red Squirrel © Tracy Hall 2012
2.25" x 1.75" watercolour (enlarged)

Its been a while! After several months of flat-out illustration work with no time for miniatures, I am trying to ease myself back into working 'in the little'. It's harder than you might think and I feel very rusty! I did this little chap some years ago much larger as an exercise in coloured pencil but always intended to paint him in miniature one day so here he is, munching on a twig. We encountered him at Landmark in the Highlands where they have a feeding station, so he was very tolerant of humans bearing cameras. Below are also some snippets from recent paintings all destined for jigsaw puzzles later in the year, when I'll show them in their entirety and just to prove I haven't been idle.

I adore this little squirrel, but I would wouldn't I. There is so much texture and detail in your work, I am always amazed by it.
