Barn Owl © Tracy Hall 2011
3.5" x 1.5" watercolour on board
I shall be doing a larger painting of barn owls later in the year and while working on the sketches for the client's approval, I couldn't resist doing a miniature of a barn owl as well. So here it is :)
We don't get barn owls this far north, but they are fairly widespread in the rest of the UK and I think they are one of the prettiest owls. You can find out more about them at The Barn Owl Trust.

THis is stunning...such detail and your rocks...marvelous!
Wonderful, Tracy. Enjoy your day.
I love the wonderful barn owl you painted, and think: if only I knew how to do rocks like that!
Beautiful Barn Owl, Tracy. My favorite colors and love the rocks, too. I had been watching a live web cam of barn owls from, eggs to owlets and it was so interesting and so much fun! They really are wonderful birds. This one looks like a winner to me!!
Thanks for sharing the step by step on your gorilla. Wonderful detail! Have you read "Ape House"? It has bonobos in it. I just finished it, really good read!
Thanks Cynthia and Carol! I admit love painting rocks Marie, much easier than owls :) Bet you can do it.
Thanks Barbara - apparently they have been showing barn owl webcams on Springwatch here in the UK but I have missed every episode :( I haven't heard of Apehouse, sounds good so I'll see if I can get a copy!
Spectacular work Tracy! Incredible details in the rocks. Your works are so inspiring!
Magnificent! - I love the wonderful mix of colors in stones and background - and the owl too of cause ;)
A beautiful painting!
Tracy I just love this little fellow. We have them here but I never see the owls...I can hear the larger ones though in the woods in the night...I just love how you composed this and your unity of color...a winner...you are amazing!
Thank you Carol, I appreciate that, the rocks were the most fun :)
Thank you also Lene and Egretta, I'm really pleased you like it :)
Hi Janie, what sort of owls are they in your area? Thank you for the nice comments, I enjoyed putting this one together :)
