Great excitement here today as a family group of killer whales (ok, pod) appeared in front of my parents house on the other side of the island, just yards from the shore. There were two adults and a youngster, chasing seals. By the time I got there they had moved further along - I did manage to get a short piece of video before they disappeared...with apologies for the quality but it was windy and it's hand held, plus it was way too exciting to concentrate properly :)

Thank you, Tracy, very exciting! We manage to see a few from our veranda each year, but quite far out as I suppose they are scared of entering rocky areas.
That must be wonderful Marie. In over twenty years I've never managed to see them in Orkney before. Having watched the video again I am now fairly certain there were three adults and a calf.
Great images and video clip. Its wonderful to see them especially so close to shore.
Here (Newfoundland) we've always had them around but mostly far offshore, but last summer there were a lot and were seen everywhere, especially around whale watching boats, unfortunately hunting other whales. :(
Wow, thanks so much for sharing that Tracy.
Hi Tracy,
Wonderful.
I could have wished they were there a bit earlier as I just returned from a week in Orkney. Would have been great to have seem them, but I enjoy your video clip.
All the best,

Dear Tracy,
Yey! Thank you for sharing it. I love whales. We can watch them and dolphins, too in Sydney. Great.
Cheers, Sadami
Brilliant sight Tracy. You live in a little part of paradise (discarding wind of course!) Well done for having the reflex to film: I would have just stared and stared and stared :D
I've switched the video to Youtube hoping it might be a bit better!
Thats interesting Jeanette, I wonder why they were more in evidence last year? (Unfortunate about the whale watching boats!).
Thanks Torben, sorry you missed them!
I nearly didn't get anything Sheona - was so busy being awestruck!
How wonderful, thanks for sharing.
Cool :D
