bearded dragon miniature painting

Bearded Dragon © Tracy Hall 2011
3.5" x 1.5" watercolour on rag board

Last weekend my daughter and I spent a wonderful day at Nick Martin's exotic animal rescue centre in Inverness - Creatures Great and Small. Nick takes in reptiles and other creatures from the public, the SSPCA and other organisations across the UK. As his charity receives no external funding, he also gives talks and visits to help meet the considerable costs involved in caring for them all. There are no regulations to control the sale of these creatures and they are readily available from pet shops. While some are knowledgeable and offer advice and support, some are not, leading to the sad need for centres such as Nick's to pick up the pieces. His knowledge and dedication are amazing - not to mention his endless patience and good humour!

I completed this miniature painting of a bearded dragon this week and proceeds from the sale will be donated to the centre. It is priced at £350, framed and ready to hang.

If you would be interested in purchasing please click here for full details or if you have any questions do get in touch. Alternatively you can make a donation of any amount to help fund the centre on their website via paypal.

Tracy, I love the head-on perspective and the long vertical shape on this miniature. Very nice of you to offer the proceeds to the centre!

This is most beautiful Tracy. You've captured it's splendor so perfectly. I do know because my son owns one of these that's as big as my forearm.

What an absolutely fantastic Painting Tracy. My son keeps bearded dragon lizards and has had them now for about 6 years. I've always been tempted to paint them, but then decided it was too hard with all the detail in their skins. You have done such a superb job and the way you have done the background, lighting and the colours you used complement the little guy perfectly. You are so generous with your time and proceeds as well!!! :)

Thank you Sadami and Mona - I'm pleased you think the composition works too, I struggled with that for a while!

Ah, Carol and Karen - I shall no doubt be bugging you for advice as we are adopting one shortly!

Thank you Sheona!

Tracy, you already know I love this piece. I, like Mona like the long format. For some reason I've been drawn to it lately. You did it wonderful justice. I always love your compositions. (Not to mention your technic!)

Knowing Huff personally you have done a marvelous job, the texture of his skin is amazing with the full detail of a truly living work of art. I'd love to see my beardie, Maverick done like this.

Hugs for donating to Nick, he's an amazing guy who cares more for those animals than anyone I've ever met!! and certainly more than some of there previous owners.

Good luck in a quick sale!!!

Thanks Carol!

Lovely to hear from you Ami-jayne and thanks so much for the kind words. We were so impressed by Nick and his work, he's an inspiration! I really hope this painting sells fast for him - and it was so much fun to paint there will be more!

He is wonderful Tracy! You have such magic in your brush!!!
We have a Beardie named, "Ajax". He is the most docile, most wonderful creature ever! We take him out every night so he can romp around the house and get his exercise...do you know they run with their tails curled around their heads? It's hysterical! I'm so pleased to hear of your charity to this wonderful centre. People really ought to do more research before they decide upon pet ownership!

Thank you so much Egretta and April! Mary Ajax sounds brilliant - would love to see a video of that! My daughter is getting her beardie in the summer and looking forward to it very much...actually so am I :)
