chimpanzee painting in miniature

just waiting for a title...© Tracy Hall 2011
4" x 1.75" watercolour

Finished! Do feel he should have a proper title though... any ideas?

You can read more here about the Budongo Conservation Field Station in Uganda, which is funded by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland who own Edinburgh Zoo, where this chimp lives at the Budongo Trail.

Wow, Tracy, AMAZING work and detail on such a small scale. BRAVO! He looks like "The Thinker".

Hi, Tracy!
I really love his eyes! Sure he(of course, you) deserve something and "ENtitlement", not only a banana:).
Cheers, Sadami

Thank you everyone and such great title ideas too. Much appreciated - two votes for The Thinker from Colette and Tristan :) I rather like the connection between this fellow and Rodin's chap!

A wonderful painting. I thought ''Hmmm, what's next?'' but I like 'The Thinker' as well.

I love it, Tracy. Since he is from Budongo I think you should name him "Buddy".

He's stunning Tracy!! Such a fabulous expression...when I saw him I thought of a few things: an older chimp, a male, smart chimp...how about "Age of Wisdom" or "Pondering Primate" or "The Patriarch"
or something to refer to more personal character "Greybeard"

You have done a wonderful job! His eyes are beautiful. For a title how about: Pondering or Contemplation

Tracy Hall said...

Thank you hmuxo :) Great suggestions Lorraine, thank you, unfortunately I already used Contemplation before. I should probably try some different types of poses!

Amazing fur, and overall painting! How did you achieve the highlights on the forearm after already establishing the darker washes?

Love your youtube videos.

Thanks for you time,
Swift

Hi Nick
Thank you for the lovely comments. To work light over dark I work opaquely - adding white (titanium white watercolour)to the mixes to gradually layer in the lighter hairs.

I'm pleased you enjoyed the videos and I hope that helps!
