miniature art society of florida exhibition

Tomorrow is the public opening of the MASF annual Exhibition in Dunedin Fine Art Center in Florida. This is one of the largest Miniature Art exhibitions and an important event in the miniature art world with over 800 juried works on display from artists all over the world. I'll have five paintings there and was delighted to receive 3rd place in Birds & Animals for Chillin' (Sumatran Tiger).

Chillin' (Sumatran Tiger) 2" x 2" watercolour

All the volunteers work extremely hard behind the scenes to put on a tremendous show which is always very popular with both artists and buyers. There are demonstrations and most of the work on display is for sale (excluding the permanent collection). One year I will get to go - but meantime am looking forward to hearing all about it from those lucky enough to be there!
I received a copy of Pratique Des Arts this week, the leading French art magazine, who kindly included one of my paintings in their Hors-série Aquarelle Spécial. I must confess I rarely get to see any art magazines (I am never sure which one is worth subscribing to, even if I did get round to it) so its always a treat. There is some truly outstanding work included in this issue and I was completely blown away by the work of Stan Miller in a feature on his portraits - they are simply breathtaking. He works in watercolour and egg tempera and you can see more on his website, but here is a photo from the article as well:

Congrats on your award Tracy! I had three pieces juried into this show - my first time to enter.

I remember Stan Miller from when I lived in Spokane years ago. I've always loved his paintings.

Hi Sue - oh thats wonderful! Which pieces did you enter? I hope you sell them all.

I'm so pleased to have found out about Stan Millers work, great to hear that you know of him. I am very out of the loop, I realise, but its always exciting to discover an artist you hadn't heard of before!

Dear Tracy,
Cngrats! But I cannot see the tiger well(samll, but I well-understand copyrights issue). Is he lying on the back for "chilling"? Have a wonderful new year!
Best wishes, Sadami

Congratulations Tracy he's absolutely gorgeous and deserving of a prize. Looks like a big tabby but probably wouldn't be wise to tickle his chin.
Thanks for the heads up on Stan Miller, wonderful stuff!

Tracy! I DID go to the show and it was marvelous! Congratulations! The tiger is one of my all time favorites and now he had found a home, (did you know?!). I don't know who the buyer is but I did see that cheery sold stamp on its placard. I'm just glad I had the opportunity to see your work up close. It's even better in person. I sure wish you could have been there. I so want to meet you some day! One of these years...
Anyway...the show was wonderful, the people a delight and the weather cooperative. I don't think I could have asked for a better first miniature show experience!
