Two new miniature paintings

'Newhaven Quay' Tracy Hall 2010.
1.75" x 3.25" watercolour on board

In progress and as yet untitled (but it has swallows in it!) Tracy Hall 2010
2.25" x 3.25" watercolour on board (penny shown for scale)

Two new miniatures to end the week. I've been too busy to post, apologies, but its calmer now, albeit briefly :)

The first is of a little boat, the St Rognvald, that we saw tied up at Newhaven Quay near Edinburgh over the summer (while enjoying a fantastic meal at Loch Fyne seafood restaurant. Highly recommended!). It was early evening and the light was beautiful - unlike the scan of this painting which is suffering from a bit of glare.

The second is still in progress, some swallows from the garden recently set amongst the ruins of an old croft on Burray called Taftnica.

A reminder also that the Society of Wildlife Artists exhibition 'The Natural Eye' has just opened in London at the Mall Galleries and is absolutely worth a visit before it finishes on October 2nd! I have two pieces in the show, a Redshank and some House Sparrows. I can't get down to see it unfortunately, but if you do I would love to hear from you.

Beautiful as always, Tracy. When you say watercolor on board, could you please explain exactly what the board is made of. I admire your work so much and wonder if using different material myself wouldn't make a world of difference in my paintings.

I love seeing your miniatures Tracy - the light is stunning in the first one. The second one looks complete to me already and has such a lovely rustic feel to it. Both are fabulous!!! :)

Thank you Carol - the board I use for the minis is Crescent Premium Watercolor Board (HP) : http://www.dickblick.com/products/crescent-premium-watercolor-board/

I really like it, but I dare say it won't suit everyone. I hope you can try a bit and see what you think?

Thanks so much Karen!

Beautiful Tracy, love the atmosphere in the first one and the rustic feel to the second. Hope to go to the Mall Galleries before the Exhibition ends, cross fingers - I know your work looks exquisite in person :)

The boat is so serene and held my attention, Tracy, but the ruin is truly outstanding. You really found a lovely old window!

I notice gannets among your birds...is there a blog entry on them? I would love to read it but do not know how to search for it.

Two beautiful works Tracy. I love the window and rustic feel of the work with the swallows. Your buildings are always so interesting and textured. Your boat painting is serene.

Thank you Anon - do let me know if you manage to get to the show!

Thank you also Doris, Marie and Barbara, old buildings are wonderful subjects to paint aren't they. Marie, I'm not sure how to search either but did find the gannets painting here if that helps? The previous post is about it as well - http://watercolour-artist.blogspot.com/2009/07/gannets-in-miniature-completed.html

Hi Tracy, thank you for that link. I am about to do the last of five posts on the gannets of Lambert's Bay and will place a link to your miniature on my blog.
