eiders - bird painting in miniature

eiders miniature painting by Tracy Hall

'Eiders' © Tracy Hall 2010
2" x 3.75" watercolour on board

The above painting was the result of a recent wander along the beach where a profusion of eiders were enjoying the sun and calm waters - and quite tolerant of the temporary intrusion! They're beautiful birds. It is shown above enlarged with a penny for scale.

Lovely, Tracey. They look like they are watching something with such intensity.
I must share with you that I watched your videos with my 9 y.o. grandson the other day as he has taken quite an interest in art. He was in awe of your work especially the owl and cat. I'm sure he'll want me to show him more of your work as time goes by. He asked me if I would be that good someday and I told him I didn't know but that I really had to practice to become anywhere near that good. The "P" word (practice) is not in his vocabulary right now so this is some learning experience for him.
Sorry for the rambling but thought you'd like to know even the little ones are watching you.

Beautiful piece Tracy! The textures and details are amazing and I love how the Eiders are all lined up and all are looking in the same direction.

Carol thats such a lovely story, thanks so much - there are few things so rewarding as encouraging kids! He's a lucky chap to have you to share it with and I hope he gets bitten by the art bug. We all strive to get better don't we; you can tell him I'm practicing all the time too...I just don't always realise that's what I'm doing :)

Hi Tracy, amazing realism. I love the very interesting viewpoint too. It turns the birds into spectators too!
