As a little aside, I recently painted this letter 'R' for some friends who own a really beautiful guesthouse locally. Its a gentle nod towards the old illuminated letters - although not really either; just a bit of fun incorporating miniature scenes of the house, grounds and beach atop a study of the cornices that adorn every room, without (hopefully) being too fussy and needing to work in both colour and b&w. Not at all something I do in the general run of things but I rather enjoyed myself with it and they're happy.
If you're coming to the islands it is a lovely, peaceful place to base your trip: Roeberry House
Update: I've also tried to give my poor old website a bit of a revamp in between things this week. Long overdue, but rather than simply updating it of course, I thought I would give it a bit of a spring clean...and within a few hours wished I hadn't. You can't stop once you start. Possibly not working completely correctly yet (still fixing errors which I swear weren't there earlier) but at least I think it is now actually 'up to date'. If you have time for a look and notice anything that doesn't work or is wonky do let me know and we'll see if my somewhat basic grasp of html will enable me to fix it. Aren't blogs easy by comparison?!

Tracy,
I think the letter goes very well with the house (I went into the website). The house looks magical, especially because of the view while not being fussy. I think you captured that with your letter. If is not overly detailed like the historic letters, but very classy. I want to be there!
Tracy,
I'm sure they love it, it's very well done. You did a great job on the composition; the house in the circle of the R and the gate down below work well. Very nice.
Tracy, you did an outstanding job with the letter. I can see why they are happy with it! Beautiful work that shows all the charm of the place! I want to go there!
Many thanks Gail and Michelle. I think I'll leave illuminated letters to someone else to be sure, but it was a fun project :)
Sorry Barbara, must have been posting at the same time - thanks so much and I'm sure you would be more than welcome!
complimenti sei bravissima....non ho mai visto acquerelli così splendidi!!!!
Milena
Its a beautiful letter. I always find letter so appealing, especially when illustrated and enhanced.
The blog looks great. I think we're all in spring cleaning mode for blogs right now! :)
Absolutely brilliant work. I love it!
Heather
Thanks Milena and Jeanette. I should probably extend the spring cleaning to the house as well, but maybe later :)
Thanks Heather - but not a patch on your beautiful calligraphy!
Haven't had time for awhile to check out everyone's blog. Wow- love your letter. Also gonna have to check out that wagtail I'm seeing under this one. I absolutely adore your work. I haven't seen a thing you can't seem to do with such flare.
