Water Lilies © Tracy Hall 2009
2.25" x 3.25" watercolour (shown enlarged)
For my latest miniature I have returned to an old favourite, water lilies, although its the first time I've painted them in miniature. I used Arches hot pressed paper and did enjoy this one, especially the leaves and got completely absorbed in all the shapes and patterns.
I forgot to mention before that the Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington DC (MPSGS) exhibition has now opened at the Strathmore Mansion, North Bethesda, MD, USA. By all accounts its a beautiful show in a magnificent setting, with 724 works selected from artists all over the world. I have three paintings there and was delighted to receive an Honourable Mention for 'Jake' - who nearly didn't go actually, so that's how much I know about these things! There are demonstrations by miniature artists throughout the show which runs until Jan 2nd and it will be well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Beautiful Tracy! I think you need to do more mini water lilies; that water looks awesome!
The waterlily is just amazing.
The water lilies is a beautiful miniature Tracy. Congrats again on Jake too---it's great to see this one, he has winning ways!!
Congratulations on the award!! The Water Lilies are amazing -- not that I'm surprised or anything -- all of your paintings are superb!!
Thanks for your lovely comments ladies :)
Tracy...oh my..those water lilies are beyond beautiful. I think this is one of your best pieces to date. Exquisite.
Congratulations on the award for Jake. He's a sweetie.
The water reflection and depth you've achieved in your water lilie miniature is outstanding.
Well done on Jake's honourable mention :)
Thank you Jeanette and Sheona, I'm really pleased you like the lilies!
Tracy, the water lilies are fantastic! So delicate and the water has such depth. I can see why you would enjoy the leaves with all the shapes and the veins, great color choices! Congrats on the HM. I wish they would have put the HM awards up on their website. They did year before last. I love the "Jake's" expression.
Well done on the miniatures :)

Congratulations Trace! They are both wonderful but the composition, color and detail in the lily painting is breathtaking.
Tracy, your lilies are beautiful! I went to the opening of the MSPGS in Bethesda, and I recall seeing Jake! It was so crowded, I didn't cross check every piece with the program, and I didn't know it was your piece, but he is so much more vibrant in person...The texture of his fur is tactile. Congrats!!
Thanks Barbara, Jason, Colette and Deb :) It would be lovely to see the whole show online wouldn't it Barbara?! It would also be terrific if the Uk societies could show some of their exhibitions online. I guess it all takes time though.
Your photos from the show were a real treat Deb, thanks so much for taking the trouble. Glad you liked 'jake' in person - miniatures always look SO much better in real life don't they. Wish I could work out a better way to scan them; or perhaps it wuld be better to just show them nearer life size rather than enlarging them.
