Red Admiral and Cone Flowers © Tracy Hall 20092" x 2" watercolour on rag board
This week seems to have flown by! Above is my latest miniature of purple coneflowers (Echinacea purpurea) and a Red Admiral Butterfly. It was very enjoyable to work on despite getting lost in the foliage more than once. Below is the completed commission of the lapwing - in a particular field with geese flying overhead :)

I was pleased to learn that 'Common Eider' and 'Whistling Duck' (both 2" x 2" and shown below framed) have been selected for the upcoming Royal Scottish Academy exhibition in Edinburgh - more details to follow when I have them. (Update - or not apparently! They have a rather bizarre selection process it seems, and I've now heard that they haven't been chosen after all. None of the 20 works from members of the RMS or Hilliard Societies were selected in the end) . Apart from that I'm still busy painting some larger works for licensing and hope everyone had a fun Halloween :)

Tracy, what more can be said, you continue to grow leaps and bounds with your miniatures. All are beautiful. Congrats on the Royal Scottish Academy exhibition. Good luck and do keep us informed on how you do.
Congrats on the selected paintings. They look great all framed up and ready to show. The cone flowers and lapwing are excellent also.
Two beautiful works Tracy! You may have gotten lost in the foliage, but you've done an incredible job with it! Congratulations on your work being selected for the Royal Scottish Academy Exhibiton!!
Tracy, I think any of these paintings will be accepted anywhere you enter them - Fantastic work! And I really like how on the Lapwing you have the bird in the same colors as the background, but managed to still make him stand out - just with the tones. Excellent!
Your blog looks wonderful with nice picture of Red Admiral and Cone Flowers painting. it looks awesome. Enjoyed your blog very much.
Beautiful Tracy! Congrats on being selected for the Royal Scottish Academy Exhibition - hope you can get to Edinburgh it. :)
They are beautiful, I don't know how anyone can work so small and get such fabulous detail. Congratulations
Thanks so much for the lovely comments!
Unfortunately I heard today that my work didn't get selected for the RSA show after all - they have a really strange selection system that seems to be designed to confuse artists!
It's a pity as they wouldn't accept miniatures for ages and only changed that policy this year. One miniaturist took 20 works from members of the RMS and Hilliard Societies and has already had to go back to collect some earlier uaccepted work...and will now have to make the trek all over again as it now transpires none of us got in...!
Sad news Tracy, heaven knows what what went on at the selection. Why do societies change their policies on miniatures then not accept the best in the country? It will be their loss as fine art miniatures seem to be selling well. The public has better taste than the RSA selection jury!
Sorry to hear this Tracy. I agree with all Lesley said above. I can't figure out the jury selections at shows either. As Lesley said, it is their loss. Your work is beautiful!!
Aw, thanks:) Seems the final decision was down to the hanging committee - maybe they just weren't confident with displaying miniatures!
I fiori che hai dipinto sono così veri che ora li raccolgo e li porto a casa mia!
