Saturday was the opening of a joint exhibition with my dad, ceramicist John Struthers, at the Loft Gallery in Orkney - 'Paintings & Pots' runs until November 10th. Its really lovely for us to get the chance to exhibit together as we worked out the last time was nearly ten years ago! If you're in Orkney I hope you'll be able to pop in.
We were both at the gallery on saturday afternoon and I worked on my portable box easel for a couple of hours which turned out to be a good excuse to be able to chat to folk about miniatures and show how I work. This is a wonderful little box that I treasure, designed for plein air painting back in the early 1900s and given to me some years ago by a magnificent lady artist of 101. It just so happens to be perfect for painting miniatures anywhere too.

The Royal Miniature Society Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London opens this coming week, running from Tue 13 - Sun 25 October 2009 and featuring around 700 works by artists from all over the world. Admission is free, and if you have the opportunity to visit it will be a feast of some of the finest miniatures anywhere. Special congratulations this year to Geoffrey Herickx, winner of the Gold Memorial Bowl. Unfortunately I can't be there this year but am eagerly awaiting reports from luckier souls!

Hi Tracy, I wish I could come to see the exhibition with your and your Dads work. And to see how you paint would have been the ice of the cake. I wish you both much sales and many visitors. Your little paint box is beautiful and perfect.
Hi Doris, thanks so much for the good wishes. Wouldnt it be fun if you could have come?!
How wonderful to be able to have a show with your Dad. The pictures look wonderful. I would really like to be able to see everything in person. Wishing the very best to both of you with the show.
That IS a very cool box! And congratulations on your show! Beautifully set up, it is!
Thank you Vicki Deb :)
What a lovely presented show and how great it must be to have a show together with your Dad! Great photo of the two of you. That is a really nice painting box. Nice magnifier too, looks like a clip on? Best of luck to you both!
Thanks Barbara - yes its a clip on magnifier; I usually use a hand held one but I run out of hands if I'm holding the easel too :)
Congratulations on your and your Dads show!
Tracy,
How much fun to share in a show with your Dad! You two must be so proud of each other.
Thanks for posting the image of your portable painting studio!
Hi Tracy, I love the photo of you and your dad. You both look so happy. The show looks great and good luck with both shows you have going on.
How wonderful Tracy, I wish I could be there to see it in person! Thanks for sharing the beautiful photo of you and your Dad. As the Siegrists said, you must both be so proud of one another. It's a rare treat when family members can share the joy of creativity. Love the story about the paint box!
What a lovely event for the both of you, Tracy. Not too many artists get to show with their parent, and viceversa. I know that you're both loving it. Wish I could just jump over the pond and see the show and your works first hand! Congratulations!
Thanks so much for the good wishes everyone. Dad gave me endless supplies of paper when I was little and taught me most of what I know about drawing on it. I still can't throw a pot to save my life though :) We are enjoying doing this together immensely, hopefully we won't leave it so long before the next one.
What a treat to see you, your dad, your show, and your paint box! Lovely post, really enjoyed it. Best wishes for your show. Congratulations as well.
