28" x 20" watercolour on Arches
This painting has been fun to work on. It is based on a traditional 'But and Ben' crofter's cottage, and this part was called the 'inbye'. I combined elements from the farm museums and vintage centre in Orkney, together with aspects of my parents house which was virtually unchanged when they bought it and still had the original box beds (they're very cosy!). Plus a little artistic license admittedly.
In front of the stove is an Orkney Chair - the high straw backs were ideal for keeping you warm on a drafty winter's night! The tradition of making them is still alive and well in the islands today - visit young craftsman Kevin Gould's website to see some of the beautiful furniture he makes.

Gorgeous piece and lovely to see some of the traditional pieces kept alive in your paintings.
Wow!Amazing painting Tracy!
It must be wonderful to have all that history around you.
Hmm, don't those kittens look familiar? [says the cheeky Canadian;-D ]
Tracy, this will make a beautiful puzzle, I love how you make such comfy, homey scenes.
Awesome, I thought it was a photo.
Tracy--This is fantastic. Much larger than you are used to working. You need to get puzzle companies to buy your art. This would make a very nice puzzle for several people to sit and put together.
Wonderful!!!!!Ilike it so much!!!
Wow Tracy I just cant get over the detail in this painting. And it really doesn't look like watercolour at all. Amazing. How long did it take you??
oh Tracy this is so wonderful. I love the warm feeling and atmosphere - just love it.
Thanks Jeanette, I enjoy the old stuff and its fun to paint.
Kim - hehe, I wondered if anyone would spot that! Working on both paintings at the same time it suddenly struck me that the pose in the miniature was exactly what I wanted for the larger piece as well. They do get around, my kittens :)
Thanks Judy and Gail, I'm really pleased you like it. And I'm happy you said that Terry as it's exactly what this painting is destined for.
Glad you like it Alessandra and thank you Doris and April. You can do anything with watercolour.
Wow, a 28 x 20. Wonderful painting.
A wonderful painting and a fascinating link to the Orkney Furniture Maker. I enjoyed both!!
This is gorgeous! And I love how it's a larger size, but you've still painted it in the spirit of a miniature.
Is that watercolour, that's excellent work!!
Thanks Vicki and Chris, he does wonderful work doesn't he? Glad you enjoyed it!
