'Picasso' (a lucky cockerel) © Tracy Hall 20091.75" x 2.25" watercolour miniature on board
(enlarged view - penny shown for scale)
This is the third time I have painted our cockerel, Picasso, and I think it may be the last for a while as he is quite vain enough already. Its been a busy week or so; a lot of work that didn't involve a paint brush, but necessary all the same. It's that time of year. Apart from two miniatures, I have a large flower garden painting in the drawing stage which will hopefully be approved and started in the next few days. Planning can sometimes take me almost as long as painting.

I was also really pleased to hear that the painting I submitted for the Society of Botanical Artists exhibition in London was selected, as this is one I have been meaning to enter for many many years but never got around to. The show runs from April 24th to May 3rd at Westminster Central Hall. Which is coincidentally almost exactly the same dates as the Society of Women Artists annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries from 23rd April to 2nd May. I am hoping the paintings I sent down for it will get in but won't hear for a little while yet - please cross fingers and toes for me !

Your work is mesmerising Tracy.....small is beautiful :)
Tracy, these two are beautiful...as usual. Is Picasso a barred rock rooster? Those barred feathers look much like those of our birds, but the breast is different. And your little finches are precious. They are perfect.
Congrats on your selection to the shows!!!
In Italy we said "in bocca al lupo!!" (good luck). I love your miniatures! Ciao! Paola
Tracy, not only are you a msster of your subject, you excel at the background details! I just love the way you handled the paint on this door, the grass and the stone!! Wow!
Thanks so much Elizabeth. Small is wonderful, I'm a convert :)
Not sure what kind he is, Mollie, he was a egg we got from neighbours... parenatage was pure breed, but we're not entirely sure they hadn't interbred with other pure breeds when we saw what hatched, if you follow my drift! So he's probably a mixture.
That sounds so pretty, Paola! Ciao! Thanks very much, Mary :)
Tracy...Picasso deserves to be painted over and over again! He's magnificent, (and knows it I'm sure!) Your paintings are such an inspiration! I'm hoping some day you will publish a book on all your miniatures. What a seller that would be!
Tracy, Tracy, Tracy!! Congrats on getting into the Society of Botanical Artists exhibition!! Both are beautiful but I love the colors in the Cockerel painting, it is really great.
Many thanks Mary and Judy. I have just figured out what was bothering me about the greenfinches painting, so helps to see it on screen! So have taken it away to fix...it will be back soon :)
I can't say enough about how much I enjoy your paintings and how in awe I am of your talent. These paintings are so beautiful and so detailed, how can you possibly see them as a viewer if you don't have a magnifying glass?
Now I am really revealing my ignorance of miniature paintings but I really want to know. They are so beautiful the size they show up on the computer but when you compare them with a penny they must be infintisimally (sp) tiny.
To have such talent---you are truly blessed.
